RAM (random access memory), the main characteristic is that it can read and write data at any time, but when the power supply interrupted, the stored data will lost, it mainly used for temporary program and data. The RAM can be divided into Dynamic RAM, DRAM and Static RAM, SRAM. The storage density of DRAM is higher and the cost is lower, but it need refresh circuit and with poor speed. The SRAM with high speed, but the storage density is lower and the cost is higher. Generally, the main memory capacity in computers refer to the capacity installed DRAM, and the Cache Memory between the CPU and main memory is the high speed SRAM, because of the high cost, the capacity is lower.
